1690

Candlestick, Doulton Lambeth Silicon.

An unusual candlestick - Doulton, Lambeth, Silicon ware.
Terracotta coloured body with applied leaves and flowers borders in white, dark blue and pale greeny/blue. Incised drag design to
base. The mark is for 1881-1912. Maker's mark has what looks like "C" and "oo". No chips or cracks, but the decoration has a some of the white layers missing on the centre stem band - not noticeable, as the colour has remained.
Candlestick measures 16cm high (6.1/4 inches) and the base is 10cm (4 inches) diameter.

Small Mother of Pearl Calling Card Case.

A ladiesí small calling card case - mother of pearl in lovely cream, pinks and greens. Victorian or Edwardian period (circa approx. 1880-1905). Flip-top lid. Catch works well. Measures 9cm by 5.5cm and 1cm thick (3.1/2 inches by 2.1/4 inches by 3/8 inch thick). Very good condition - one tiny sliver of pearl absent by lid opening on side (see c/u photo) and a small dent in the pearl on the opposite hinge edge (which may be natural). A very pretty item.

0274

Victorian Burr Walnut Writing Slope.

A large, Victorian period, brass-bound, burr walnut writing box of oblong shape, with fitted interior, and drawer in the base. The interior is fitted with a set of 3 secret drawers, hidden behind a sprung panel. These have little fabric ribbon pull handles. The writing slope is leather-covered, with gold tooling. One original ink bottle, although the cap is a probably ring-in. The edges of the box are bound in bevelled brass, and there is a line of double fine brass stringing inside this on all sides. It has a brass lock and escutcheon plate, and also a brass presentation panel on the lid (unengraved).
Box measures : Width 45cm, depth 27cm, height 21cm (17.1/2 inches by 10.5/8 inches by 8.1/4 inches).
Condition: Basically sound. The top has a crack through the veneer across one corner (see photos of lid).
There is a round veneer repair on one side (old), and various small bubbles etc. The brass stringing has some lengths absent. Inside, the leather to the slope is split along the join of the two sections. There is chipping to the black veneer interior edges and the tag with which one pulls up the slope surface to access the interior of the box, has been reglued. The spring to the hidden drawers is accessed by pulling up the partition next to the inkwell, and works extremely well.
Basically, all wear is commensurate with the age of the box, and with use. It is a handsome item, and burr walnut is a very attractive finish. We have further photos available if you email us.

C5519

Calling Card Case, Mother of Pearl.

A Victorian period calling card case - made from Mother of Pearl with a silver insert presentation panel (not yet engraved with anyoneís initials) and ivory inside edges. Still in its original presentation box - beautiful Morocco leather with a crimson silk interior. The card case itself has a purple/blue silk interior, with two pockets of blue card. Once this case would have had a concertina style interior of blue card pockets, but it is all missing except the end two. However, this means that the case can now be used for business cards (our cards are so much bigger than the original calling cards, that the old fittings are too small for todayís use). Card case measures 11cm by 7.75cm by 1.5cm thick (4.1/4 inches by 3 inches by 5/8 inch thick). Excellent condition, except for the inside previously describes. Clasp is good and strong.

Doubled Ended Ruby Glass Scent Bottle.

A Victorian period double-ended scent or perfume bottle, in ruby glass. Would date circa 1890. Measures 10.5cm long (4.1/2 inches) and 3 diameter (3/4 inch). Octagonal glass body, with brass end caps. The end caps were probably once gilded brass, but are duller now. The bottle is a good weight, and inside each little hinged lid, the bottles have glass stoppers, and there is old cotton wadding inside the lids. The stoppers are both different, one having a flat sided long finial, and the other having a rounded small finial. I think this is so you can tell which perfume is in which end. Very good condition all round.

C7423

Villeroy and Boch Lidded Jasper Ware Pot.

An unusual hexagonal lidded pot, ginger jar style - maybe a tea caddy - fashioned in a very Indian pattern with applied scrollwork, and stylized elephant heads around the neck. Made in pale chocolate-coloured jasperware, with applied pattern in a paler shade of coffee. Makerís mark is for Villeroy & Boch, an impressed mark, (much like the mark Wedgwood uses). It has the letter "L" also impressed.
This a very beautiful item, about 18.5cm high and 10.5cm wide at its widest point (7.1/4 inches and 4.1/4 inches). It has a shallow chip along one corner underneath (since the material is the same colour right through, this doesnít show). Otherwise excellent condition.

4382A

Small Kitsch 1930s Pin Dish, Pewter.

A round pin dish - beaten metal (probably pewter) applied to a wooden base, with a painted blue pansy decoration. This type of craftwork was very popular in the 1920s and 30s, and much of it was made at home. We see wall plaques, pin dishes, powder bowls and candlesticks all decorated in a similar manner. This little sweetie is 12.25cm diameter (4.3/4 inches). You can also repaint the wood and pansy a different colour if wished.
