4305

Victorian Wool Work Tapestry, Framed.

A Victorian period tapestry - late 19th century. The subject is large roses, surrounded by a border of leaves. Possibly made to be a stool seat or table screen panel. The roses are given texture by using finer and coarser stitches and wool. Generally, the pattern is worked in thicker wool, and the background in fine. There is a part of the black border where for some reason brown has been used. Oval panel measures 42 cm by 32 cm (16.1/2 inches by 12.1/2 inches). The whole, frames measures 66 cm by 52 cm (26 inches by 20.1/2 inches).
Very good condition overall - possibly some fading to roses colour. Beige mount, gold frame.

1694

Georgian Period Plate, Handpainted Cow Scene

Pretty early 19th century Georgian period plate, with central hand painted decoration of a rural scene with cows. The border of the plate is blue with dark blue-outlined circles. Gilded edge. The plate has no makerís name - although there are some underglaze impressed marks on the back. Unfortunately, they are not readable. There appears to be a small repaired rim chip (visible at the rear of the plate, or at least some over-painting of the white porcelain can be seen). Condition is very good for the age of nearly 200 years old - there are a couple of tiny rim nibbles, a few knife marks to the central picture, and a minor hairline at the rear. Plate measures 24 cm diameter (9.1/2 inches).

C7416A

Large Chinese Embroidered Picture, Bowl.

Beautifully done, this lifelike picture of a Chinese bowl is all done in embroidery - all in knot stitch, tiny little knots giving the effect of shading and shape. Plain background fabric (could be silk - donít want to open the cellophane to check!) Mounted in dark grey double matt with thin brown decorative border. Mounted onto thin ply. Whole measures 50 cm by 40 cm (19.3/4 inches by 15.3/4 inches). Modern. Excellent condition.

Carte de Visite Photo, Gentleman.

Carte de Visite photo of a gentleman with spectacles, seated. Photographer is Fritz Moller (Germany). The gentleman is identified on the rear (canít read the surname). Photo would date 1905.
There is a date on the rear of 1883, but I think this is the birth date of the subject.

C8835

Edwardian Porcelain Egg Cruet.

Pretty lustre ware egg cruet - with two left-out egg cups and little shell shapes in the cruet to carry your salt and pepper. Red and green wreath decoration to the sides. Probably German-made, circa 1900-1910.
Cruet measures 13.5 cm by 9.5 cm and about 9.5 cm high (5.1/4 inches by 3.3/4 inches and 3.3/4 inches high). The egg cups are 5 cm (2 inches) high. Only one fault, a little imperfection on one ring which the cup fits over - it looks like a small chip, but has glaze on it, so is probably a firing fault. Not seen when egg cups are in place.

C7359

Villeroy & Boch Cafetierre.

Not old, but very useful and good quality. A brown-glazed cafetierre made in Luxembourg by Villeroy & Boch. It has the number "4" stamped underneath (4 cup?). Underneath is ridged, so presumably can be put on a cooktop. Filter containing ground coffee fits into top portion of the unit, and works as a normal drip-filter coffee system. This unit is removable, and there is a lid for the coffee pot. All together measures 21 cm high (8.1/4 inches). Spout has a very good pouring end on it - whole item is in unused, excellent condition.

Lovely colours of aqua and pink drip-glaze in this Australian vase. No makerís marks. Measures 11.5 cm high and 11.5 cm diameter (4.1/2 inches by 4.5/8 inches).
It has two small glaze losses in inside neck rim, otherwise in lovely condition. Very attractive. Nice lumps and bumps to it.

C9105

Victorian Hoof Pin Cushion.

Cowís hoof pin cushion, circa late 1800s. Top has a heart shape in metal pins with collars. The brown velvet is a replacement, and rather coming away at the sides. Underneath is the original red velvet, rather age weary, but personally I think nicer than the brown. The pins would pull out and be reinstated back to the original covering. Iíd do this, but Iím selling this on consignment, and the owner may not like it being fiddled with - however, the next owner could choose which cover is best.
Whole pincushion measures 7.2 cm high by 11.2 cm deep by 8.4 cm wide (2.13/16 inch by 4.7/16 inch by 3.5/16 inch). It has a wire loop at the back, so could be hung against a wall.

7213

Large Powder Horn.

19th century powder horn, made from a horn. (For carrying gunpowder to load a shotgun or rifle). Has pull out plug in tip end to pour out the powder, and both the tip and the other end have attachment for a cord or similar which would have enabled the user to carry this over his shoulder. The plug is a nicely carved piece of horn also. The far end has a wood end piece covered with red felt (worn) and a brass or copper plate with O ring. Horn is a large one, at about 35 cm wide (13.3/4 inches). Very good original condition - red felt is worn through, there are a few age scuffs on the horn itself, and a small split in the horn on the plug end - nothing serious, and doesnít effect the use. Excellent piece of old history.
Our Price: $ 212.00

Click for more detail...
7214

Fieldings Crown Devon Musical Jug.

Large musical jug, playing Auld Lang Syne - made by Crown Devon, England. Their mark is under the lid to the music box works. The scene is in relief, and shows an ale house, where the Publican sits with his customer, and a serving woman brings him a mug of wine for the toast his friend is raising.
On the reverse side is the rhyme for the song of Auld Lang Syne. The handle is a beautiful green thistle with purple flowers.
Jug measures 18 cm high, and 21 cm wide (7 inches by 8.1/4 inches). It is in excellent condition, and the musical box works well. The only fault would be the top layer of the ply wood face of the musical box (underneath) is warped where moisture has got into it. This could be replaced.
